See you on the otherside of the world!

We are going! We leave for the airport at 6am tomorrow morning! I don't think I'll sleep at all tonight:-) I can't believe the time has actually come for us to go. I packed things for C this afternoon... some clothes, toys etc. It felt unreal. R was helping me pack and he said, "Wow, I remember when you bought those things and now you're packing them. It's getting me really excited! C is finally coming home!" I think it's hitting all of us- we're going to China in the morning:-) !!! R keeps going on and on about the Zoo in Guangzhou. He really wants us to see a Panda:-) Augh, I just started crying! I'm suddenly feeling very emotional. We've been waiting so long for this little girl! Anyway- hopefully we'll be able to blog while there, if not we'll do lot's after we get home! :-)

fishing success!

Guess what? WE LEAVE FOR CHINA IN TWO DAYS!!!!! I was running around non-stop until after midnight last night trying to get things done. I've got more running around to do today. We've finally had some sunshine so Kevin and the kids went fishing yesterday. J and R each caught one fish.... T would like her grandpa to know that she however caught SIX FISH! The boys were so floored hahahaha! She LOVED it! She can't wait to go again! T has been our daughter for six months now. Can you believe how fast time has gone? And every day we see more proof that this is exactly where she belongs:-) And speaking of daughters...we leave for China in TWO DAYS:-) Two boys and two girls- life is good:-)

Tip-toe through the ferns

Guess what?! We're leaving for China in FOUR days!! I can't believe it. I've almost got everything done on my to-do list:-) In other good news, the boys seem to finally be over their regression from the change in their neuro-program at the end of May. I was worried that wouldn't happen before we left for China. But my prayers were answered! They are obviously still scared to have us leave. But we've been doing a lot of talking and doing lot's of family bonding activities. Last night both boys slept really good which is always a good indicator of their stress level. So I think we're starting our last week before we leave on a really good note:-) Yesterday afternoon the clouds parted (it's been raining almost non-stop for more than a week now) so we decided to go for a drive. We drove up the canyon. That's always a gorgeous drive but with all of the rain we've been having lately it was just amazing! It was SOO green! There was so much wildlife out and about as well. And you can't do that drive without stopping the car and getting out from time to time. It's way to beautiful. The highlight was when we came upon two baby skunks! Oh my gosh they were so adorable!! T kept asking, "Can we pet them?!" I had to explain about wild animals to her HAHAHA! One of them stuck up it's tail and shook it at us, obviously in an attempt to spray us- luckily it was still too young! whew:-) And I suppose it was lucky that their mama wasn't around:-) Toward the top of the loop there was an area where ferns covered the ground as far as you could see. We had to stop and walk around! I had the kids collect some fern leaves to take home. After we got home we made rubbings of the leaves. They turned out so pretty we nailed them above the french doors between our livingroom and kitchen. As we came to the end of the loop and began the drive down, the clouds came back and it poured! We made it out just in time:-) And it was a gorgeous couple of hours spent together running around the trees:-) Today it's back to my to-do list. Did I mention that we are leaving for China in FOUR DAYS?!:-)

A week from today!

I can't believe we are leaving a week from TODAY! Does anyone know where my suitcase is? Just kidding! Last night my sister and I (mostly my sister) made a couple of skirts for C. They have a draw-string waist. Just something (one-size fits all) in case it takes us a few days to get clothes for her. They are so cute! AUGH! We are leaving ONE WEEK FROM TODAY! The boys are starting to freak out. They've never been away from us for so long. I'm trying everything I can think of to make them feel better... does anyone have any suggestions? We wanted to do some fun family activities this week- we had planned to go hiking and maybe camping... but it's been pouring rain all week! Honestly, I love the rain. I grew up in Germany, it rains all the time there! But it has gotten in the way of our normal family activities. We have been watching a lot of movies together... maybe I'll come up with another art project to do...
Speaking of movies... T has been looking at our movies. She saw my DVDs of Pride and Prejudice (the A&E version.) So she popped it in. About an hour into the movie (it's 6 hours long- two discs with 3 hours on each.) she seemed really bored. Kevin said she didn't have to watch it if she didn't want to... but she kept going. The first disc ended around 10pm. She was SOOO on the edge of her seat LOL!:-) She was saying, "Wow, Mr. Darcy loves Elizabeth, why didn't she want to marry him? What will happen???" (the first disc ends with Elizabeth rejected Mr. Darcy's proposal) It was too funny. She wanted to put on the next disc so bad but it was so late. LOL! Yea, I've got another Jane Austen fan in the family:-) The boys think it's painfully boring and have only seen bits and pieces of it. But T was so excited about it they kept asking, "Well, is it something we would like? Maybe we want to watch it too..." hahahaha! Unfortunately I can already tell you they will hate it. The boys can't sit still for five minutes, they are not going to sit still through a 6 hour Victorian love story that's all talk and all "action" scenes involve brisk walks through a few gardens:-)... T is planning on watching the exciting conclusion today:-) Meanwhile I'm going to attempt to make the boys feel better about our trip. I think I'm going to print out a complete schedule of our trip (the little we can schedule) so the boys can see what we are doing while we are gone. I've also made little envelopes for my sister to give them each day while we're gone. They have family photographs, a small toy (matchbox car etc) and a note from us. They will get a new one each morning we're gone. I've also made a special little snack baggy for each day with nuts/driedfruit/treats for every day also. I'm hoping that all of that will help them feel a physical connection to us while we're gone. As for this week, I'm just hoping I can get them to calm down... it probably doesn't help that I'm a bundle of nerves as well...

T's new hair cut

Here's my beautiful daughter with her cute new hair cut!

Panic on the streets of... London?

Okay that is a Smiths song... "Panic on the streets of London..." Today it hit me really hard- we're leaving for China NEXT FRIDAY. Is it just me or did time just speed up?!? I have this nice little to-do list that I made for myself last week of all the things I need to get done before we leave. (I'm addicted to lists...I love lists. I have a list "problem." :-) ) Anyway, I suddenly thought "what, I'll never get everything done in time!" More panic:-) Actually, we're just fine. I did item number six today- get a hair cut. Actually T and I both got haircuts today. Her hair is so cute! Kevin took a photo, I'll have to post it. It is the first real haircut she's ever had. In the orphanage they just chop your hair with scissors. In her first family they did the same- homemade blunt cut. Now she has "style" :-) She said she thinks she looks like someone in a movie:-) She just loves it. It was so cute, her sitting in the chair as her hair was being styled while she tried not to smile at her own reflection:-) Kevin of course took lot's of photos. You have to take photos of your child's first hair cut, right?
We had a little excitement in our neighborhood Yesterday. A firetruck broke down right in front of our house (blocking our driveway!) It gives you a lot of confidence in the city that you live in when the emergency vehicles break down and require towing. And it did get towed. In fact, I didn't realize they made tow trucks that large!! The boys loved watching all of it. Kevin did some awesome sidewalk driving to get into our driveway:-) And in case you are wondering, I have no idea why the firetruck was there- no one's house was on fire.
In other news, we have been watching a lot of Star Trek lately LOL:-) J LOVES Star Trek. Yes, that makes him a Trekkie, in case you aren't familiar with the lingo:-) How did this start- well it really started a couple of years ago when my sister and her roommate at the time and our mutual friend, babysat the boys for us. She had some of the original Star Trek series on DVD. She put some on for the boys to watch. They loved it. I don't think they've seen it since then but they still remember it. Fast forward several years... a few months ago we went to visit my other sister out of state. She had Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD (what.... are you commenting on the nerdiness of my family and friends?!? Yes, sci-fi nerdiness runs through my veins...) Anyway, she put on a few episodes for the kids to watch. Again... they loved it. So she loaned the first season to the kids. (side note to other parents: they have some really naughty episodes! There's always some sort of Alien-Love illness infecting the crew....) Anyway, J became obsessed. He has memorized the opening- "Space, the final frontier..." So for the last few months we have been watching a lot of Next Generation episodes (skipping the alien-love episodes...). For his birthday my dad (see, it is genetic- I can't help it) gave J some of the original Star Trek movies. We have watched the "Wrath of Khan" and now "the Search for Spock. " J now LOVES Spock. We discuss all things Vulcan related these days at the dinner table hahaha! So if you are in the mood to discuss some Vulcan ideology, J would be more than happy to discuss this with you. And if Vulcans aren't your thing, he'd be happy to discuss Klingon ideology as well:-) heeheehee:-) Well that is all of our news at this time. Live Long and Prosper... and I am and always shall be your friend (I threw that last bit in for the trekkies:-) ), Anita

prayers please

So I'm trying not to go crazy. We didn't get our TA (travel approval) last week like we expected... our adoption agency has no way of knowing when it will come but they expect it at any time. So I'm praying like crazy that it will come this week. Please pray that we get our TA this week- the sooner the better:-) I feel like I'm going out of my mind waiting for it. Patience has never been a strength of mine:-) Plus, the harder it will be on us if we have to put off our travel. We are really hoping to go the middle of June- that would be easiest on our family.
Kevin has just left. He'll be in Yellowstone all week teaching a photography workshop. Today is J's 14th birthday! We celebrated it yesterday (While Kevin was still home.) He was spoiled by his grandparents and aunts/uncles:-) I'll post some pictures later.
Tomorrow we have a dumpster coming. I'm so excited to get rid of the last of our junk pile (All of the construction mess from when we remodeled the back of the house.) The pile has been here since last summer. It'll be wonderful when it's gone. I'm not looking forward to all of the heavy lifting though. I'm a big wimp and since Kevin is gone I'll be doing it by myself...it should be interesting:-) I have a feeling that I'll be very sore on Wednesday:-)
And finally, congratulations to my wonderful dear friend Dielle! She just had a beautiful baby boy.  He is number 6 for her and her husband! (I love you Dielle! I'm so happy for you!!)
Anyway, please prayer for us so we will get our TA this week!
